Dear Members of the International Relations Club,
It’s been a long time coming, but we’re back and ready for action! The world never stops to wait – With a new country born out of the heart of Africa, and famine at the continent’s edge, a revolution that dethroned a Libyan dictator, terrorists attacks from the Middle East to Norway, violent crackdowns in Syria, a downgrade of the world’s most reliable currency, youth riots in England, political turmoil in Japan, and an unprecedented Earthquake-Hurricane combo that smacked the American NorthEast, we enter this Fall semester in an environment of great international turbulence.
At the same time, we begin this year with tremendous enthusiasm about what lies ahead on campus. Surely, we’re eager about new classes, new rooms and roommates, and even long-awaited events like NCSC or NAIMUN, but we’re most excited about the people at Georgetown. To connect with new friends and reconnect with old ones, to learn about each other’s experiences abroad and at home, and most importantly to engage each other in the great dialogue that is needed to confront the challenges of our world.
The IRC will facilitate that dialogue, and we hope to give you the tools necessary to forge connections with friends, new and old. Upcoming events, including social gatherings, Model UN conferences and travelling competitions, speaker panels and debates and philanthropic initiatives will not only deliver a unique, interactive exposure to international affairs, but will provide you an opportunity for the time of your life with the people you will never forget.
Over the coming weeks and months, we will present a vast array of events, resources and opportunities to you. On behalf of the IRC leadership, I strongly urge you to take advantage of all that we offer, meet as many new people as you can, challenge them and learn from them. Immerse yourself not only in your studies, but also in this community of friends eager for new faces and new voices. Let us reignite the dialogue, and begin again the work of a legendary year ahead.
